  • Reduced magnification
  • Better contrast than standard single vision lenses
  • 100% UV protection, from the front and rear lens surface
  • Best anti-glare coating on the market
  • Best scratch-resistant coating on the market
  • No quibble 2 Year guarantee against scratches
  • Improved visual performance in all activities

We are now able to offer you the best lenses available, thanks to our investment in the latest technology. The Visioffice allows us to take non-invasive 3D measurements of your eyes. As a result, these bespoke lenses are unique to your eyes and to your frame. They are FIVE times more optically precise than standard lenses, giving you the very best in vision and technology.

Standard lenses benefits:

  • Made from a plastic material, they are lightweight and considerably safer than glass lenses.
  • They are available in thinner lens materials
  • Choice of lens coatings from Premium to Basic
  • Available in both Clear, Transitions® and Polarised

We carry a stock of standard lenses, both uncoated and coated which enables us to offer a same day glazing service for most prescriptions.

Bifocals

We use British suppliers for our bifocals

Bifocals will enable you to see objects clearly in the distance and up close. However, as you can see in this image they don’t cater for your mid-distance. Bifocals have a segment at the bottom of the lens which you look through to view objects up close. You can choose from a variety of segment sizes, larger segment sizes will benefit you by giving you a larger ‘field of view’ for your reading or close-work activities.

Bifocal benefits:

  • Convenience of one pair of glasses offering clear vision in both distance and reading
  • Reading segment available in different sizes offering wider ‘fields of view’ for close work
  • They are available in thinner lens materials
  • Choice of lens coatings from Premium to Basic
  • Available in both Clear, Transitions®

Varifocals

The varifocals we use are from a company called Essilor, they developed the first modern design back in 1959 and are now the biggest supplier and market-leader of varifocal lenses in the world.

Varifocals enable you to see clearly in the distance, at mid-range and close range. They look like a normal type of lens, there are no lines in the lenses like a bifocal. They are very convenient due to the fact that they enable you to see clearly at differing focal lengths.

When looking straight ahead the distance will be in focus, then as you look down towards the bottom of the lens so objects at mid-range (computer or dashboard) come into focus, and then looking through the bottom part of the lens will bring your reading or close-work into focus.

With varifocals when looking towards the edge you will encounter a softer focus. You will experience this with all varifocal types, however with better varifocals this is reduced considerably. Looking at the image below you can see how the left image has a smaller area of clear vision, whereby the right image shows a better varifocal offering you a much wider area of clear vision for the distance, mid-range and close range.

Click on the image below to enlarge it.

Our varifocal lenses are split into two categories- personalised and standard. Below you will find information on each type.

Personalised varifocals

If you are looking for the very best in varifocals then personalised lenses are for you!

They are a major enhancement over standard varifocals. With the introduction of the Visioffice® we can take non-invasive 3D measurements of your eyes, your chosen frame and even your natural eye and head movement behaviour!

Your eyes are just as unique as you are, and with these additional measurements the lenses are tailored to your eyes only. The result is the lenses being made 5 times more precisely than would otherwise be possible, giving you the very best vision, which after all is what you want.

Personalised varifocal lens benefits

  • Wider ‘fields of view’ for distance, mid-range and close-work
  • Improved off-axis performance (F360 and Ipseo varifocals)
  • Reduced ‘swim effect’ (Ipseo varifocal)
  • Quicker adaptation than standard varifocal lenses
  • Best anti-glare coating on the market
  • Best scratch-resistant coating on the market
  • No quibble 2 Year guarantee against scratches
  • 100% UV protection from rear surface reflections
  • Lenses that are five times more precise, giving a total lens-to-eye synergy
  • Instant and effortless vision
  • Your initials micro-engraved on the lens
  • Available in both clear and Transitions®
  • Available in thinner lens materials
  • 60 Day guarantee

Standard varifocals

Standard varifocals work in the same way as the personalised type. The lenses we offer range from the best possible (in the standard range) to entry-level. As the lenses are supplied by Essilor, the worlds leading varifocal manufacturer you can be assured that the lenses are of a premium quality and all our varifocals come with a 30 day guarantee.

Enhanced Readers

Enhanced readers enable you to see clearly at close-range and mid-range. The appearance of them is like that of a single vision lens, ie there are no lines on the lens. However, the bottom half of the lens is dedicated to reading and other close-work activities, and the top part of the lens is for mid-range ie a computer screen.

These lenses are excellent for computer users, whether it’s at the office or at home. Even if you’re not a computer user they are fantastic as they give you a much greater focal range than a single vision pair of readers.

In the images below you can see that in the left picture both the book and the table are in focus even though the book is close and the table is at mid-range. This is the enhanced readers.

In the right hand image the book is clear, but the table is out of focus. This image depicts standard reading glasses. So as you can see the enhanced readers are more versatile.

                                        Enhanced Reader                                                                      Standard Reader

Enhanced reader benefits:

  • Don’t have to have separate pair for computer and reading
  • Very quick adaptation
  • Available with a choice of anti-glare coatings (Forte UV recommended)
  • Available in thinner lens materials
  • 30 Day guarantee

Coatings

Lens coatings will perform different tasks, the most common are giving you clearer vision than an uncoated lens, and to make the plastic lens more resistant to scratching. Cosmetically they look great too, as people can see your eyes rather than reflections coming off the lenses. Different coatings have different benefits which are shown at the bottom.

Cosmetically far more appealing!

Safer and more comfortable night time driving

Truly appreciate HD TV with ultra clear lenses

Give your child the best opportunity at school.

Nowadays schools are using whiteboards that produce a lot of glare. With a coated lens the glare is reduced, meaning your childs’ eyes don’t have to work so hard, and it’s vitally important they can see the whiteboard clearly as 80% of a childs learning is visual.

What are the different types of lenses?

With so many different contact lenses available, it can be confusing. We can group contact lenses by the material they are made from (hard or soft) and how long you wear them for (the wear schedule). Lenses will also be prescribed based on your vision problem, ie short sightedness, long sightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia (the inability to focus sharply for near vision).

Hard lenses

  • Can correct all types of vision problems from the most common to the most severe.
  • Can last up to 12 months.

Soft Lenses

There are 3 types of soft contact lenses:

Contact lenses for myopia and hyperopia

These are spherical lenses. They correct basic visual problems including short-sightedness (myopia) and long-sightedness (hyperopia).

Contact lenses for astigmatism

These are toric lenses. They correct astigmatism by compensating for the irregular surface of the eye.

Contact lenses for presbyopia

These are bifocal or multifocal contact lenses. They are used to correct presbyopia - the inability to see things up close.

All 3 types are available as daily disposable or reusable lenses.

Daily or reusable lenses- which is best for me?

Dailies

  • Daily disposable lenses are designed for the demands of the city and modern day living - low maintenance.
  • Fresher is better - Wear a fresh clean lens everyday!
  • Suitable for seasonal allergy sufferers.
  • Long lasting comfort.
  • Wear lenses full time or occasionally for socialising and special events

Reusable Lenses

A reusable lens is one that you wear for more than one day, so rather than discarding them at the end of the day, you have to clean and disinfect them, then store them in a contact lens case until you want to use them again.

Polarised Lenses

Polarised lenses will give you the best possible vision when wearing tinted glasses. They only allow useful light to pass through the lens and prevent light that produces glare.

If you want to benefit from owning the best sunglass lens available then polarised lenses are for you.

Below, the images clearly show how you would benefit from polarised lens compared to standard sunglass lenses.

Sports and Safety

Sports

We are able to supply quality sports prescription eyewear. Anything from diving masks to swimming goggles to protective eyewear for basketball!

In most cases the masks or goggles can be ordered with your prescription on approval, so you can try before you buy. There’s no obligation to purchase if the fitting or style isn’t suitable for your needs.

Safety

There are many different types of safety glasses available. Usually your employer will issue paperwork stating the specific type of safety glasses required.

All of our safety glasses are manufactured through Norville who specialise in this area. All safety glasses are tested to the necessary British Standards before being despatched, so you can be assured that the glasses you get are of a premium quality.
